Textorio Devlog & News

The current Early Access build focuses on the surface factory game. The caves serve as its closing scene; the completed deeper descent remains in development. Availability depends on the installed build and its research requirements. For the opening, see the beginner guide, power guide and demo details.

Updates, patch notes and behind-the-scenes from the solo developer building Textorio.

P.Logic: A Programming Language Made of Air

Most factory games give you circuit wires. Textorio runs on pneumatics, so the logic layer had to run on air too. P.Logic is pressure logic: sensors, gates, comparators, latches, timers and counters, all driven by the pressure in your pipes instead of an electrical signal.

Textorio P.Logic circuits built from ASCII characters, showing logic gates, comparators and seven segment displays wired with pressure lines
A working P.Logic board. The bright clusters are seven segment displays reading live pressure values.

It comes with little seven segment displays, so a machine can tell you what it is thinking without you opening a single menu. Put one on a smelter bank and it will show you the backlog. Put one on a valve and it will show you the moment before something goes wrong.

Honestly, most players will never build a circuit, and that is completely fine. But the ones who do are the ones who make the blueprints and the videos everybody else learns from, so it is not really a feature for a small group. It is a feature for the people who then hand it to everyone else.

Unlock it through the research tree, then start small: one sensor, one gate, one valve that closes itself.

Four Layers Down: The Core Chamber Fights Back

The world goes down in four layers: surface, caves, deep caves, core chamber. Each one is a different place to build, not just a different colour of rock.

Textorio deep cave layer, an ASCII underground world of hot rock, mineral veins and mining machinery
The deep layers. Down here the rock itself is the hazard.

The part that changed how the descent feels: down in the core chamber the rock is hot enough that machines start failing on their own. No enemy did that. The layer did. Your factory begins losing throughput and you have to work out why.

So you either research thermal management and earn the right to build down there, or you go back up. That is the whole design. Depth is not a reward you unlock, it is a problem you solve.

Shared Planet: 1024 Regions, One World

Kepler-442b is now a shared planet. It is split into 1024 regions and everybody is on the same world. Walk off the edge of your region and you are standing in somebody else's.

Textorio shared planet mode, a colonist settlement with housing, stored goods and power lines rendered in ASCII characters
Somebody's settlement, exactly as they left it.

Their base is just there. Their belts, their furnaces, whatever strange layout they committed to. But it does not run while you are visiting, you cannot open a chest, you cannot take anything and you cannot break anything.

That was deliberate. There is no PvP and no stealing in Textorio, and nobody should ever log in to find their factory gone. What is left is the good part: walking through ruins that a real person actually built, and stealing ideas instead of items.

Early Access Is Live

Textorio is out now in Steam Early Access at €4.15. Four months later than the date that used to sit on this page, and a much better build for it.

What ships: the full surface layer — factory automation, power grids, fluid and steam systems, combat, the research tree, and a colony that grows across seven tiers from twelve survivors toward a metropolis of fifty thousand. The caves are where the chapter closes: descend when you are ready and the rock has the last word. The deep caves and the Core exist in the code and are not finished content.

Buying now locks the price. It goes to €9.99 at 1.0 and there is no upgrade cost if you bought early. Your name enters the in-game passenger manifest either way.

The Free Demo Is Live on Steam

It's here. The free Textorio demo is now available on Steam — crash-land on Kepler-442b and build your first automated factory, completely free. The demo covers the full early game: smelting, fluids, steam power, the research lab and basic automation, with the tech tree open through Tier 2.

New: The Skew Inserter — Diagonal Logistics

Most factory games lock you to a grid. The new Skew Inserter doesn't — it moves items diagonally, in any of 8 directions, set from a compass in its panel. It also has a configurable reach (1 or 2 tiles), so it can hop a belt, a wall or a pipe.

That unlocks something no other ASCII factory game can do: build in diamonds. Production cells arranged in a 45° lattice, item flows weaving through each other in clean X-patterns — factories that read like circuit diagrams.

Unlock it via the Logistics research, then click it to pick its direction and reach.
