A factory game for a low-end PC: check Textorio on yours

Updated · By Hyena Studios

Textorio uses text characters instead of a 3D world, and its published minimum requirements include integrated graphics. The free Steam demo is the best way to check whether it feels good on your particular PC.

Published minimum requirements

The official Steam listing specifies the following minimum configuration. Meeting it is a compatibility starting point, not a promise about a large factory's frame rate.

Operating system
Windows 10, 64-bit
Processor
Intel Core i3 / AMD Ryzen 3 or equivalent
Memory
2 GB RAM
Graphics
Intel HD 4000 or better
DirectX
Version 10
Storage
500 MB available space
Sound
A DirectX-compatible sound card

Check the current Steam requirements before installing. Regional store details and requirements can change.

Why text graphics are only part of performance

The ASCII world is a visual choice, not a benchmark result. Textorio still runs simulation, interface updates and effects. Factory size, active machinery, background applications and the specific CPU or integrated GPU all affect the experience.

We have not supplied a controlled hardware benchmark or a verified comparison with Factorio. Claims such as “runs on any PC” or “handles a larger factory than Factorio” would go beyond the evidence. Try the same activities you expect to play instead of judging only the first empty screen.

A useful demo test on an old laptop

  1. Check the basics. Compare your Windows version, RAM and graphics hardware with the listed minimums, and leave enough storage for installation.
  2. Test normal play. Start a single-player game, move around and open the build and inspection panels. Check that characters are legible at your screen resolution.
  3. Run a small factory. Bring steam power online, add a production chain and watch the response as machinery and moving items increase.
  4. Compare conditions. Close other heavy applications and test again. On a laptop, compare your usual battery and plugged-in settings rather than assuming they perform identically.
  5. Record the result. Note hardware, resolution, build version and what was running when you observed slowdowns. That makes a bug report or support request useful.

For a repeatable opening, follow the beginner walkthrough. If the factory stops but the interface stays responsive, check power and production inputs before treating it as a performance problem.

What you can try in Early Access

The surface game includes mining, smelting, belts, inserters, electrical networks, fluids, steam and research. The current Early Access build treats the caves as its closing scene; the completed deeper descent is still in development.

The demo is an opportunity to judge the opening controls and systems on your machine. It cannot prove performance in every later factory or future update. Read the demo-versus-Early-Access guide before deciding.

Choosing another factory game

If Textorio's presentation does not suit you, compare the different styles in our games like Factorio guide. Check each game's own requirements and demo availability rather than assuming that a 2D or text-based game automatically fits every old computer.
